About
Knowledge in our community, like many other tribal societies, have been predominantly passed down to generations orally. While there have been various attempts made by writers, from within and outside the community, bulk of it remain undocumented.
Also, a considerable section of the literature based on the Mising community are either misconstructions or totally false. Very little attempts have been made to rectify these mistakes. Misconstruction of knowledge can have varying effects, sometimes, very damaging to the said communities. It helps in construction, reconstruction and strengthening of stereotypes about communities. Also, it leads to a trail of misinformation, which is referred to by various younger scholars-leading to a vicious cycle of ‘knowledge building’, which communities have little participation in.
Additionally, a lot of work done on the tribe, by Mising scholars, which were rich in content and information are now simply lost- as no systematic efforts were made to archive the knowledge.
The Mising Community researchers’ Collective seeks to fill this gap and is a platform of researchers, academics, activists and scholars et. all of the Mising community- the second largest tribal community in Assam. The collective shall
Objectives
- To share empirically researched thesis, articles on Mising community in a jointly created website
- To conduct seminars, talk shows and conferences on issues faced by the Mising community.
- To create and run an online journal exclusively on the Mising community (long term)
- To publish books, collections of articles on the Mising community (long term)
Who can be a member?
- Research scholars, journalists, academics, working professionals with a strong desire to write and contribute to the Mising community.
- Non-Mising scholars, researching or study the Mising community can also be contributing members but will not be a part of the core group.
The Collective is a membership based organization and will be sustained through the contributions of its members.
